In the age of data privacy and
environmental consciousness, the importance of secure document disposal can’t
be overlooked. At Russell
Richardson we play a pivotal role in not only safeguarding sensitive
information but also contributing to the sustainability of our planet through
the paper recycling journey.
In this blog we get into the fascinating process that takes shredded paper from secure document destruction to becoming soft tissue hygiene products.
What happens after shredding? It's recycled!
Once your confidential documents are securely
shredded, the journey towards sustainability begins. We offer two main types of
shredding services at Russell Richardson: Mobile
Paper Shredding and Off-site
Paper Shredding. Whether your documents are shredded on-site or at a
secure depot, the next steps in the recycling journey tend to remain the same.
1. Compressed into bales and transported
The shredded paper is compacted into bales,
ensuring efficient transportation. From here, they embark on a journey to a
paper mill.
2. Mixed with water to create pulp
At the paper mill, the bales are mixed with
water, transforming them into pulp.
3. Cleaning the pulp
The pulp undergoes a thorough cleaning
process to remove debris and ink. The pulp is then spun in large vats, allowing
any remaining debris to settle at the bottom.
4. Ink removal
To achieve pristine white paper, the pulp
goes through a process to remove ink. The ink-laden bubbles rise to the top and
are skimmed off.
5. Drying and embossing
Following the ink removal, the pulp is
spread onto wire screens to drain. It then passes through heated rollers to
dry.
6. Converting pulp into paper products
The final steps involve transforming the
clean, dry paper into usable products. Machines spool the paper around
cardboard tubes, creating the rolls at the centre of toilet tissue, kitchen
roll, or paper towels.
