A security firm has claimed that healthcare organisations are 200% more likely to be hit by data thefts after analysing security feeds from global healthcare organisations.

Raytheon Websense have also stated that the healthcare industry is hit by 360% more security incidents than other sectors, leaving it more exposed to data theft on a large scale due.

With stolen healthcare records typically worth ten times more on the underground than other stolen information, data thieves are targeting the sector for personal information that can be used for ID fraud and financial exploitation.

Findings from the Raytheon Websense ‘2015 Industry Drill-Down’ report echoes findings from the US Identity Theft Resource Center which claimed that medical/healthcare accounted for the greatest number of reported breaches for 2014.
