Secure shredding specialists, Russell Richardson are lending their support to Data Privacy Day (DPD) this January 28th as a DPD 2015 ‘champion’.
Co-ordinated by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), Data Privacy Day (DPD) is an international effort celebrated annually on January 28th, centred on Respecting Privacy, Safeguarding Data and Enabling Trust.
As a DPD champion, Russell Richardson are using the day to raise awareness of data vulnerability and the importance of secure data destruction.
“With fines of up to £500,000 companies can’t afford not to comply with data protection legislation,” said Jonathan Richardson, managing director of Russell Richardson. “We try to educate where we can about the importance of making sure information is properly destroyed and provide secure storage solutions so that data is protected right up to the point of destruction.”

Data Privacy Day began in the United States and Canada in January 2008 and is now celebrated internationally. January 28 commemorates the 1981 signing of Convention 108, the first legally binding international treaty addressing privacy and data protection.
